FULL-ARCH FP3 RESTORATION
Full-arch FP3 (Fixed Prosthesis 3) is the most common and predictable type of full-arch implant restoration, offering excellent aesthetic improvement. Ceramic teeth are fixed onto the implants, replacing both the missing tooth crowns and the lost gingival tissue with artificial gingiva. This is the optimal solution for patients with significant alveolar bone resorption, restoring a natural, harmonious smile.
Key Features of FP3 Restorations:
- High aesthetics: Pink ceramic or pink composite gingiva is typically used to replace the lost soft tissue, creating a lifelike gingival contour and concealing tissue deficiencies. Initial Condition
- The patient had been wearing a full-arch ceramic restoration for over 10 years
- Composite gingiva showing staining in several areas
- Screw access holes positioned on the facial surface, compromising aesthetics
- Metal frameworks in both arches
Ms. Hoa shared that, at the time of her original treatment, ceramic restorations—particularly full-arch implant restorations—had only recently become widely available in Vietnam. Few clinics had the capability or expertise to perform full-arch implant treatment. After researching her options, she received 5 implants in the maxilla and 4 implants in the mandible, with ceramic teeth supported by a titanium framework. She was quite satisfied at the time: the restoration restored her chewing function and offered acceptable aesthetics by the standards of that period.
However, after years of use, the composite gingiva had become stained and discoloured, with darkening between the interproximal spaces. In addition, when she smiled broadly, the grey titanium framework became visible, along with a screw access hole on the facial surface of one of the teeth.
Having learned about the latest technology at Royal Dental Lab—in collaboration with World Wide Hospital—she discovered that the metal framework could be replaced with a zirconia framework offering superior aesthetics, no grey show-through, and excellent biocompatibility. The gingiva could likewise be remade in ceramic for a more vibrant, lasting appearance—resistant to staining and interproximal darkening.

- Use of angulated screw channel abutments—redirecting the screw access holes to the palatal/lingual aspect—eliminating the unaesthetic facial screw holes in the anterior region
- Ceramic gingiva selected for its beautiful colour effect, resistance to staining, and lasting colour stability over time
2. Final Outcome
Delivery of the final restoration proceeded smoothly, resolving every shortcoming of the previous restoration—enhancing aesthetics, restoring a confident smile, and ensuring excellent biocompatibility for long-term health.
A further benefit of full-ceramic restorations on a SuperZirco framework: in the event of a chip or fracture, the entire restoration does not need to be remade—repairs can be made directly with ceramic layering at the affected area.
